Dundee has emerged as one of the most vibrant cities in the country achieving amazing accolades* and is the UK's only UNESCO City of Design. The city combines the best of contemporary culture, inspiring modern architecture and a rich historical heritage.

* Ambitious Dundee is named as one of the world’s top seven cities to visit by US broadcasting giant CNN

Dundee's ongoing regeneration continues with the award-winning transformation of Dundee Waterfront, the third largest regeneration project in the UK, spanning 240 hectares of land stretching 8km along the River Tay. The Central Waterfront is dominated by the prestigious V&A Dundee - the only design museum in the UK outside London - which opened in September 2018 alongside our new civic space, Slessor Gardens and a new rail station.  With Eden Scotland planning well underway, Dundee will boast another world class visitor experience attracting global interest.

For a small city we punch above our weight with world class museums, art galleries, theatres and galleries all within a short distance of one another.  Dundee offers an eclectic mix of accommodation from hostels to contemporary hotels, bars and restaurants and unique venues to five star visitor attractions.

Thanks to our spectacular south facing position on the banks of the beautiful River Tay, we’re Scotland’s sunniest city and have more green spaces per capita than any other city in the UK.  Our size makes the city walkable – perfect for enjoying our stunning river views, exploring our art and heritage trails and visiting our green spaces for a stroll.

Dundee’s active travel routes in and around the city have been developed over the last few years with a key objective to encourage active travel through walking, cycling and public transport, and deploy sustainable alternatives to decarbonise transport.

Dundee is an ideal short break destination and touring base for anyone looking to explore the region with access to golf at St Andrews and Carnoustie within a 20 minute drive time; and walking or ski-ing in the Angus Glens or Perthshire within a 45 minute drive.  For the leisure or business visitor, Dundee offers an escape for Londoners and those in Belfast, with direct flights to Dundee Airport. Edinburgh Airport is just over an hour away and regular rail services connect Dundee to the rest of the UK by rail and a stop off for Calendonian Sleeper.
