DigitalScotland: Tayside Conference

This high-profile industry event, supported by The Times Scotland will bring together policy makers, business leaders, educators, and community stakeholders to explore the opportunities and challenges of economic growth and digital transformation in Tayside.
 
As more responsibility and expectations are being placed on Local and Central Government to drive the commercialisation of research and innovation across Tayside, it is important that you join to ensure your voice is heard. The full day Conference will provide:
 
•    An update on the progress of the Tay Cities Region Deal
•    A focus on key sectors, skills and infrastructure investment to stimulate the region’s digital economy
•    An insight into locally funded programmes that are helping to boost jobs, productivity and innovation
•    An insight into the local tech ecosystem, start-ups and funding opportunities for growth
•    Understanding how regions can learn from one another, work together and partner with local and national agencies
•    Networking opportunities and sharing best practice
 
The morning keynote is the Estonian Ambassador H.E Viljar Lubi who will highlight the policy and Government levers that have inspired and led enormous growth in the Estonian Life Sciences, Gaming and Cyber industries, and will share how Tayside and Scotland can learn from these experiences.

Graduate Apprenticeships course specific webinars: Wednesday 3rd and 4th May

The University of Dundee are holding a series of webinars to share with employers how their fully funded Graduate Apprenticeship Programme can help them to develop the skills of their workforce, at no additional cost to the business.

The five webinars, one for each of the courses they offer, will delve deeper into the content of the specific course, in addition to highlighting how the Programme can help you to both invest in the development of your workforce and grow your business.

You will also hear from both employers and apprentices who are currently using the programme, so you can find out about their experience first-hand and the benefits the programme can bring to your business.

With fully funded courses available once again to current or new employees (of all ages) in Business Management, IT Management for Business, IT Software Development, Civil Engineering, and Engineering, Design and Manufacturing, they can help you develop employees from across your business.

What is Techscaler and what does it mean for Dundee?

Techscaler is a Scottish Government programme delivered by CodeBase, aimed at creating, developing and scaling tech startups, connecting businesses with experts, and hosting spaces for fellow founders and startup folk to work and hang out.

To find out more about how it will impact Dundee, Techscaler are hosting an information event on Wednesday, 8 March 2023, 18:00 – 20:00 GMT, at the CyberQuarter, Abertay University, Bell St, Dundee, DD1 1HG. This event will be a hybrid event, with both in-person and remote options for participation.

Representatives of CodeBase will be joined by regional partners and members of our community to discuss how Techscaler activity will provide support, enable collaboration, and facilitate growth within the Scottish tech ecosystem.

This event will feature a panel discussion and a Q&A session with the audience, followed by an opportunity to network with fellow attendees.

Dundee City Council, in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council, Angus Council, Fife Council and the Supplier Development Programme, invites businesses of all sizes to a free in-person Meet the Buyer event on 21 March 2023 at the Invercarse Hotel in Dundee. 

New and existing suppliers, particularly sole traders, small businesses and social enterprises in and around  Tayside, are invited to this free event to discover upcoming contract opportunities and get support on procurement processes. 

Meet the Buyer Tayside will give businesses of all sizes the opportunity to meet buyers from:

Arcadia Night 2023 (Organised by Biome Collective)

Arcadia Night 2023

Arcadia Night 2023 brings together leading voices from the videogames industry for an evening of talks, games exhibition and performance.

Arcadia Night 2023, will take place on the evening of Thursday 2nd February from 6-10pm at Discovery Point Dundee and will feature micro-talks from game developers, makers and thinkers from across the industry, an experimental games exhibition and a performance by the wonderful Tinderbox Orchestra!

Arcadia Night is an inclusive, safe space and all are welcome; from professional game makers to students to people just getting into games! To maximise accessibility we will be providing an online stream on YouTube and in the Biome Gallery to help people near and far join in too.

With the Global Game Jam taking place soon after, this will be a great opportunity to connect to other game makers, network and learn from your peers.

WEBINAR: Tay5G Challenge Fund 2023

CeeD is running a lunchtime webinar (12:00-13:00) with Urban Foresight on 11th January to talk about the Tay5G Challenge Fund where you will be able to discuss your ideas and projects that may benefit from the funding, as well as find potential partners.

£450,000 is available through the Challenge Fund to support up to six applicants who can demonstrate impactful projects for products, services or solutions which use 5G.  
 
Applications which support the region’s focus areas listed below will be prioritised:

Illuminate Dundee

Illuminate Dundee is an event designed to shine a light on the thriving life sciences community based in and around Dundee. This event will focus on bringing together local life sciences organisations, creating a platform for attendees to meet industry peers, exchange ideas and collaborate.

Taking place on Wednesday 1 March, the event will begin with an online ‘Lunch and Learn’ session including:

Speaker presentations
A panel discussion with local life sciences professionals
Networking opportunities

Followed by an in-person networking event at The Street in the School of Life Sciences, the University of Dundee.
